ABOUT THIS LECTURE: In this class we will explore the continuing dialogue within Judaism around issues of reproductive health, specifically focusing on abortion. We’ll take a look at the classic texts used as grounding for decision-making around this issue, and also expand our awareness to include modern feminist critique of traditional modes of discussing abortion. Finally, we will see how Reproductive Justice as a framework broadens our understanding both of the issue of abortion and of our own evolving Judaisms.

ABOUT THIS SPEAKER: A native of Wellesley, Massachusetts, Rabbi Emily Langowitz received a Masters of Hebrew Letters and was ordained from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York in 2017. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in Modern Hebrew at Yale University in 2012. Rabbi Langowitz served a variety of communities, organizations, and congregations while in rabbinical school, most recently as the intern at Larchmont Temple in Larchmont, NY. She is driven in her rabbinic work by a commitment to joyful exploration of Jewish learning, building a community full of deep relationships, and the pursuit of interfaith partnerships and social justice. In her free time, Rabbi Langowitz enjoys trying out new vegetarian recipes, practicing yoga, crossword puzzles, and cheering on the Boston Red Sox. (though she has space in her heart for the Diamondbacks, too!)
